The Allen Institute for AI (Ai2) is a non-profit research institute founded in 2014 by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, headquartered in Seattle: "Our mission? Building breakthrough AI to solve the world's biggest problems."
Ai2 is committed to truly open AI — releasing not just model weights, but full training code, data, and infrastructure to advance the science of AI.
Ai2 develops and ships:
- OLMo — a family of fully open large language models with published training data, code, and intermediate checkpoints.
- Molmo — state-of-the-art open multimodal AI models for vision-language tasks.
- Tülu — instruction-tuned models and post-training recipes for LLMs.
- Asta — an agentic AI ecosystem for accelerating scientific discovery.
Applications
- AI for Science — Asta agents, AstaBench, Semantic Scholar
- AI for the Planet — OlmoEarth, EarthRanger, Skylight, Climate Modeling
- Embodied AI — Robotics and 3D reasoning research
